Suspect An Eating Disorder?

Eating Disorder Center  knows how to help you identify early signs and symptoms of Eating Disorders and also provide treatment. For those who are suffering, an eating disorder can bring about intense feelings of guilt, self-doubt, and embarrassment, making them reluctant to disclose their issues and therefore difficult to detect. Despite widespread belief, one does not have to be significantly over or under weight to have an eating disorder. Specialized treatment is necessary to heal an eating disorder as well as its impact on physical health, relationships, self-esteem and life motivation. Research has proven that early intervention is the key to recovery. If someone you love is suffering from an eating disorder, they may exhibit several of the following symptoms:

  • Dramatic changes in eating habits
  • Significant weight loss or weight gain
  • Intense fear of gaining weight
  • Obsession with one or more body parts
  • Preoccupation with food, dieting, weight or body image
  • Fasting, restricting dietary intake or binge eating
  • Misuse of laxatives, diuretics or diet pills
  • Low self-esteem
  • Excessive exercise
  • Frequent visits to the bathroom after mealtime
  • Change in mood: anxiety, depression, irritability
  • Increased obsessions and compulsions
